The Illinois Council on Tuberculosis (ICOT) supports "A Strategic Plan for the Elimination of Tuberculosis in the United States".  The focus is on the effective use of existing prevention and control methods by improving surveillance, case prevention, and disease containment efforts.

The Council endeavors to raise the standards of practice, enhance performance and increase efficiency of TB control among health care providers.  ICOT follows the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Thoracic Society, the American Lung Association, and the Illinois Department of Public Health on TB control.
